WHY YOU NEED A LEVEL 2 ELECTRICIAN IN NEWCASTLE

In NSW, not every electrician is authorised to work on the electrical supply to your property. A Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) is licensed to work on the service line, metering and connection between your premises and the network. If the issue sits before your switchboard (service line, point of attachment, meter, consumer mains), you need a Level 2 electrician - not an every day sparkie.

WHAT A LEVEL 2 ELECTRICIAN IS AUTHORISED TO DO

  • Disconnect / reconnect supply at the point of attachment

  • Repair or replace service lines (overhead or underground)

  • Repair/relocate the point of attachment and service brackets

  • Upgrade consumer mains and main earthing to modern standards

  • Metering work

  • Clear electrical defect notices issued by the network or inspector

  • Private power poles - install, repair or replace

If it involves the line into your property, the meter box, or the cables feeding your switchboard, it’s Level 2 work.

WHEN TO CALL A LEVEL 2 ELECTRICIAN (COMMON SCENARIOS)

  • No power to your property but surrounding homes still have supply

  • Damaged / low-hanging service line after wind or tree contact

  • Burnt, water damaged or corroded meter box; melted neutrals or terminals

  • Electrical defect notice that must be rectified within a timeframe

  • Switchboard or meter relocation, consumer mains upgrade

  • Private pole leaning, split, rusted or impacted

  • Adding capacity where mains aren’t sufficient

SAFETY FIRST (IMPORTANT)

  • Do not touch overhead lines, the meter box internals, or consumer mains.

  • Keep clear of any damaged, hot or buzzing equipment and call a Level 2 electrician.
